I knew I would be getting Carve the Mark in one of my crates. I just knew it. And because I’ve become this psycho book lady with, like, zero self restraint, I physically had to FORCE myself not to buy it at the bookstore whenever I went in.
Maybe I won’t get it in a crate.
What if I get a weird version in one of the crates?
What if it comes ripped?
If it doesn’t come I won’t get it as soon as everybody else and I gotta be up on the times!
Yeah… we can all agree that I need maybe some therapy for my lil problem.
This month’s LitJoy crate was great! Definitely not my favorite, but still really great. And, for those of you who don’t know, LitJoy is a monthly YA book subscription box. (Honestly, I might be the worst book crate reviewer on planet earth. Half the time people don’t even know what the hell I’m reviewing)
I totally lost the thing that tells me what everything is and who it came from, so just bear with me while I name these items myself. Let’s see how my imagination is working today.
- Tea Ball
Off to a good start.
- Hand Warmers?
Idk, whatever they are, I likely won’t wear them.
- Celestial Bracelet
Which is prettier than pretty itself.
- Q&A with Veronica Roth
- Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth
I fricken love the cover of this book. It is sparkling!!!!!
I’m a little nervous about this selection, though, as it doesn’t have the most sparkling reviews. And, as a writer, I’ve learned to really dislike Veronica’s prose. But, eh, what can you do when you have a cover like this.
On a planet where violence and vengeance rule, in a galaxy where some are favored by fate, everyone develops a currentgift, a unique power meant to shape the future. While most benefit from their currentgifts, Akos and Cyra do not—their gifts make them vulnerable to others’ control. Can they reclaim their gifts, their fates, and their lives, and reset the balance of power in this world?
Cyra is the sister of the brutal tyrant who rules the Shotet people. Cyra’s currentgift gives her pain and power—something her brother exploits, using her to torture his enemies. But Cyra is much more than just a blade in her brother’s hand: she is resilient, quick on her feet, and smarter than he knows.
Akos is from the peace-loving nation of Thuvhe, and his loyalty to his family is limitless. Though protected by his unusual currentgift, once Akos and his brother are captured by enemy Shotet soldiers, Akos is desperate to get his brother out alive—no matter what the cost. When Akos is thrust into Cyra’s world, the enmity between their countries and families seems insurmountable. They must decide to help each other to survive—or to destroy one another.
