Blackout Poetry (Week 4)

R E M O V E D

Nothing was strange to her

but

from time to time

she felt removed

almost a hundred years

outside of reality

He had been drinking

acting like it was no big deal

re-entering the throng with a comfortable familiarity

and despite the hollow

he appeared thick with relief

I know dumb guys

filled with hunger and serious arguments

against leaving bed

(this poem is a little mess at the bottom because I drew over the wrong “will” so please undermine that tiny mistake–AND DO NOT MULTITASK WHILE BLACKOUT POETRY-ING)

T H E   M A C H I N E

An ocean of pain

silent and buried in his chest

began to pour out

leaving her damp

Heartbreak is a machine.

It will eat you alive if you let it

We borrow what’s broken

We buy from the devastated

and we take

like every other damn thing

and exchange for so little

It’s robbery

Escaping is easy

but the ache still gardens the world
