Book Crate Unboxing – Mirror Book Box (December 2016)

As you all know, I was on vacation in Montana for three weeks over Christmas, and when I got back two days ago, I arrived home to a MOUNTAIN of bookmail–Mirror Book Box being one of the many packages piled beneath my piano bench and concerning my mother.

I cannot even begin to explain to you how concerned I was when I saw it because I did not recall subscribing to it and thus thought I was going crazy. Like, awesome, cool, sick, dope, my book obsession has hit a brand new low, I am now unconsciously subscribing to book boxes, it is officially out of my hands, check me into the nearest mental ward because I need help.

So, I unboxed it–and loved it–and set it aside to haunt me and my subconscious until I figured out where I had gone wrong.

But then, my friend Alex, whom doubles as my critique partner, messaged me wondering if I also ordered the box because she GIFTED it to me.

Holy shit. So. Much. Relief. Guys.

I remember looking myself in the mirror like, you crazy ass bitch, you are going psycho.

But no.

So then I died from pure, unadulterated love for my BFF/critique partner, Alex, and the world spun madly on.

I want to say a quick thank you to her. She is one of the very few people that I’ve met who is genuinely caring and thoughtful. I always find that I’m the friend that gives so much and takes very little. But Alex–Alex is on a whole new level of compassionate. She gives so much so willingly. She’s strong and curious. And, above all else, she is an incredible listener.

2016, you were a little fucked, but you did give me Alex, so I loved you all the same.

This month’s theme was magical realism. ALEX YOU JUST KNOW ME SO GOD DAMN WELL. And it did not disappoint.

What was inside?

  • Pocket Mirror

Inspired by The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender

Baths are my jam, so this was a major squeal moment.

  • The Night Circus inspired Charm Bracelet

Which is just perfect because The Night Circus is my current read

  • 90’s Inspired Mood Ring

I tried it on. Said I was feeling romantic. At the time I was feeling a little crazy. But I don’t suppose the two are that different in the grand scheme of things.

I will admit, I was confused when I pulled the mug out at first. I was like, alright, well, the design isn’t really working for me, but I guess I can just pretend it’s a regular black mug and move along.

But then, Mirror Book Box messaged me on Instagram about the mug, suggesting I fill it with warm water. So I did and HOLY SHIT, look how beautiful it became.

I have wanted this book for SUCH a long time. Honestly, Alex, you could not have found a more perfect box for me. I’m sorry you guys don’t have an Alex in your lives.

Description:

To everyone who knows them, best friends Miel and Sam are as strange as they are inseparable. Roses grow out of Miel’s wrist, and rumors say that she spilled out of a water tower when she was five. Sam is known for the moons he paints and hangs in the trees and for how little anyone knows about his life before he and his mother moved to town. But as odd as everyone considers Miel and Sam, even they stay away from the Bonner girls, four beautiful sisters rumored to be witches. Now they want the roses that grow from Miel’s skin, convinced that their scent can make anyone fall in love. And they’re willing to use every secret Miel has fought to protect to make sure she gives them up.

THANK YOU, ALEX. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU, I AM BEYOND TOUCHED BY YOUR KINDNESS.
